Dr Erika K Shaw DACM Lac
Dr. Erika K Shaw is a California board-certified Licensed Acupuncturist and a Doctor of
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. She received her Doctorate from Pacific College of Health
& Science (formerly known as Pacific College of Oriental Medicine) and specializes in treating
orthopedic disorders and sports injuries.
As a lifelong athlete, Erika jokes that if she hasn’t
personally had the injury, at least one of her teammates has. From track-and-field, ballroom
dance, cross country, swimming, volleyball, and wrestling to 16 years of soccer—including at
the collegiate level, Erika is very well-versed in the physical and mental strain that sports and
exercise can have on an athlete. It was actually a high school soccer injury of a dislocated rib that
set Erika on her path to becoming an acupuncturist.
Since 2017 as a massage therapist, Erika has cultivated her knowledge and understanding of the
human anatomy as well as the healing modalities required to not only reduce pain, but to
optimize the body’s functionality. In the clinic, Erika combines her expertise of massage therapy
with acupuncture in order to reach optimal results for her patients. As Erika likes to say, “It’s like
1+1=3 when you combine acupuncture and massage” and makes sure to include bodywork in
every session dealing with a primary orthopedic complaint. She completed her off-site shifts at
USCD’s RIMAC where she treated an array of college athletes with a myriad of sports-related
injuries. Although orthopedic disorders are her passion, she also has experience with
psycho-emotional disorders such as stress and anxiety, autoimmune (and/or
autoimmune-presenting) disorders such as Sjogren’s, polymyalgia rheumatica, hidradenitits
suppurativa (HS), as well as gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS, constipation, stomach ulcers,
etc..
In her free time, Erika enjoys training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, listening to K-pop whilst learning
Korean and Mandarin, and of course, binge-watching her favorite Chinese- and K-dramas.
